Cece has been teaching since 1968 both English and Western riding and as her knowledge and skills at drivng have improved she added that to her lesson offerings. She does clinics, individual lessons and "boot camps".
Clinics are offered on a variety of subjects. Our clinic on how to start a young horse in harness is the most popular. Driving lessons are available preceding or following the clinic.
Boot camp is an intensive course in which the rider or driver comes to Greentree for 3-5 days. Each day includes 2 lessons plus helping with other horses that are being worked. You can use horses at Greentree or bring your own. This can be set up when your schedule permits.
Instruction in riding and driving. Riding or driving lessons can be done on your horse or ours. Cece's background was instruction by British Cavalry officers who taught you to speak the language of the horse and communicate on his level. To teach the horse to learn in a willing and happy manner.
Training Both Dave and Cece train horses.
Dave works cattle and gets youngsters going in the working western way using lots of dressage, legs and loose rein. They learn about gates, cattle, how to move in a balanced way and how to move out freely.
Cece’s specialty is driving horses. She has trained and driven everything from Roadsters and Park Harness horses to Carriage horses. Her belief is that they all need to have a good foundation, be exposed to everything possible. They get driven down the road and get used to traffic, pheasants, loud motors and a host of other things as well. When they get far enough in their training they “go to town” and drive the streets of Stratford, TX. There they get used to railroad tracks, drive up windows, brick streets, semi trucks and trains and lots of traffic.
Cece also starts horses under saddle with a more English dressage slant to her training with the horses working in a more collected frame and on a tighter rein.
Lessons
Cece teaches both riding (English and western) and driving lessons (pleasure driving to combined driving and dressage), from beginners on up. You can use the ranch’s horses or your own.
"I greatly appreciate the time you spent teaching me the fundamentals of carriage driving. Also in training my two year old filly and teaching her to drive. We are now able to enjoy this sport more and a lot safer. I would recommend your lessons for anyone who is wanting to learn to drive."
